XID Request Service > Help > XIDs for People

Register:
This button takes you to another website to allow you to register non-TI personnel and generate unique XIDs associated with them.

When registration is complete, the site returns you to this location to allow you to request a badge and/or computer account for the XID.

Request Account:
This button allows you to create a computer account, which includes an Enterprise user ID & password. The non-TIer can then log onto the TI mainframe and applications like my.ti.com. The XID system also stores this information in TI Directory Services.

The account does not allow the non-TIer to log onto the TI network from a workstation, use Notes/Domino, e-mail, SAP, Unix servers, or other local or departmental applications.

XID:
Type the non-TIer's XID. The XID must be eight characters long and begin with the letter x, e.g., x0000012.

Do not request IDs beginning with: XAL, XEK, XF, XHT, XKO, XL, XM, XPS, XTAI, XTC, XTEC, XTH, XTS, XU, or X99. These are unique identifiers for reserved XID accounts.

For contract employees with XIDs generated by the CLARITY system, enter xf plus the assigned CLARITY number. <eg. xf123456 (numeric characters) not xfabcdef (alpha characters)>

XIDs for People vs. Other XIDs
The XID Request Service distinguishes between two types of XIDs:

  • XIDs for People - are XIDs that uniquely identify specific non-TIers who provide services to TI.

  • Other XIDs - are XIDs used for things like systems testing and automation. Although this type of XID belongs to a person, it is does not uniquely identify that person, who usually is a TIer identified by an Enterprise user ID, e.g. a0123456.

Registering non-TI personnel and generating XIDs
The XID Request Service relies on a software application called PeopleSoft to store information about non-TIers and to generate unique XIDs for them. Using PeopleSoft allows us to protect any sensitive information collected during registration because after registration is complete, sponsors cannot view or change any information deemed sensitive either by governmental legislation or by TI.

Note: The registration process does not add computer access or an Enterprise user ID/password. You must use the Request Account option for that.

To go to PeopleSoft and register a non-TIer:

  1. On the XID Request Service website, click on the Register button.

  2. On the TI Web Login page, log on using your Enterprise user ID and password.

The PeopleSoft Contractor Add page appears.

  3. On the PeopleSoft page, in the Name section, type the non-TIer's first name, middle initial (optional), and last name.

  4. To fill in the Miscellaneous section use the field definitions below:

Div/Cost Center The numbers for the TI division and cost center to which the non-TIer will belong. By default, the system uses the division and cost center of the person logged on.
Contractor Company The name of the contracting company for which the non-TIer works, for example, Volt, Manpower, etc.
TI Project Lead The employee number of the TIer who will be responsible for directing the non-TIer's work assignment. By default, the system uses the cost center manager of the person logged on. You can use the magnifying glass button to look up a different employee number.

Be sure to type the employee number not the Enterprise user ID. The employee number is a seven-digit number beginning with zero, e.g. 0123456. The Enterprise user ID is the employee number preceded by the letter a, e.g. a0123456.

Site Code The four-character site code of the TI site where the non-TIer will work. By default, the system uses the site code of the person logged on. You can use the magnifying glass button to look up the site code.

  5. In the Sponsors section, type the employee numbers of two TIers who will serve as the non-TIer's Primary and Backup sponsors. By default, the system makes the person logged on the primary sponsor. You can use the magnifying glass button to look up other employee numbers.

  6. To fill in the Identification section, use the field definitions below:

Country The three-character code for the country in which the non-TIer will work. You can use the magnifying glass button to look up country codes.
Birthdate The non-TIer's date of birth in mm/dd/yyyy format.
National ID If the non-TIer is in the U.S., his/her Social Security number or equivalent. The National ID is not required for non-TIers outside of the U.S.

  7. Click on the Save button.

A message appears indicating the XID assigned to the non-TIer. Make a note of this XID. You will need it to request a badge and/or computer access for the non-TIer later.

  8. Click on the OK button.

  9. If you get a security alert message, click on the Yes button.

You return to the XID Request Service website. You have now registered a non-TIer and generated an XID. To give the non-TIer access to TI buildings, you must use the XID Request Service website to request a badge. To give the non-TIer access to TI systems and resources, you must use the XID Request Service website to request a computer account.

Requesting a badge
A badge is what enables physical entry to the TI buildings. The XID Request Service website allows you to:

  • Request new badges.
  • Renew or modify badge data.
  • Change building access information.
  • Deactivate existing badges.

The XID Request Service sends the badge information to the gobal TI badge system.

Within the XID Request Service, access to TI buildings is tied to the sponsor's location. For example, a sponsor in Dallas can request access only to Dallas TI sites.

Note: The XID Request Service website does not handle access to restricted internal areas, such as fabs, labs, or computer rooms. Sponsors must use existing request procedures for the local site to request such access.

The default end date for a badge is one year from the start date although you can specify end dates for up to two years from the badge start date. After you request a badge, the non-TIer should go to your local site's badge room to have a picture made. Security personnel will then create the physical badge. If you do not know where your site's badge room is, contact your local security contact: Site Security contact list

To request a badge:

  1. On the XID Request Service website, click on the Request Badge button.

    The badge request process begins.

  2. On the first badge request page, type the XID for which you want to request a badge and click on the Next button.

  3. At the bottom of the next page, fill in the Badge start date and Badge end date fields.

Badge start date The date on which the badge access should begin, in the format mm/dd/yyyy. Valid dates are any date beginning with the current date up to the current date plus 30 days.
Badge end date The date on which the badge access should end, in the format mm/dd/yyyy. The end date can be set to any date up to the badge start date plus two years.

  4. Update any other fields on the page as necessary. Field definitions are below.

Requesting a computer account
If you determine that a non-TIer requires access to TI systems such as IMS or my.ti.com you can request a computer account using the XID Request Service website. The Request Computer Account option creates a computer account, including an Enterprise user ID and password. These allow the non-TIer to log onto the TI mainframe and applications like my.ti.com. The system also stores the account data in TI Directory Services.

However, you must take further action to allow the non-TIer to log onto the TI network from a workstation, use Notes/Domino, e-mail, SAP, Unix servers, or other local or departmental applications. The links below can help you with some of these.

Windows Domain accounts: Windows Domain account request
E-mail accounts: E-mail website
Notes/Domino accounts: Notes account request
SAP access: SAP access request

Begin by requesting a computer account:

  1. On the XID Request Service website, click on the Request Account button.

    The account request process begins.

  2. On the first account request page, type the XID for which you are requesting a computer account and click on the Next button.

  3. On the next page, check all of the checkboxes that apply to the computer account you want to create. The checkboxes are required to ensure TI's compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

Note: If you do not check the checkbox indicating that a person will use the account to log onto the TI network, the non-TIer will not have access to mainframe applications, the TI network, or websites that require an Enterprise user ID to log on. He/She will also not be able to request access to a workstation or an e-mail account.

  4. Click on the Next button.

Based on the checkboxes you chose, the system either continues adding the computer account or takes you to a page describing an alternate process for requesting a computer account for the purposes you indicated.

  5. If you see the page below, follow the instructions on it to use the alternate request process.

If you see the page below, go on to step 6 to continue the add process.

  6. At the bottom of the XID information page, specify the number of calendar days from today for which the computer account will remain valid. The system defaults to 180 days (i.e. 6 months). You can shorten this period but not lengthen it.

  7. Update any other fields on the page as necessary and click on the Next button. Field definitions are below.

Primary sponsor's user ID The Enterprise user ID of the TIer responsible for the non-TIer/XID. The Enterprise user ID is a followed by the seven-digit employee number, zero-filled if necessary, e.g. a0123456.

Renewing/deleting a computer account
Computer accounts expire every 180 days (i.e. every 6 months). In the case of computer accounts for non-TIers, the system sends a message to the primary sponsor (and others if the primary sponsor cannot be notified) 30 days before a computer account is due to expire. If the sponsor does not renew the account, the system sends more messages fifteen and four days before expiration. The table below indicates who receives messages when:

Days Before Expiration Primary Sponsor Back-up Sponsor Cost Center Manager Non-TIer Security Operations
30 1 2 3 4 N/A
15 1 1 2 1 3
4 1 1 2 1 3

  1. Primary recipient of e-mail notification.
  2. Second recipient - system sends e-mail only if unable to notify Primary.
  3. Third recipient - system sends e-mail only if unable to notify Secondary recipient.
  4. Fourth recipient - system sends e-mail only if unable to notify Primary, Secondary and Third recipient.

The XID Request Service website provides a way to manage multiple computer accounts for which you are sponsor or back-up sponsor--the Renew/Delete Account option. Using this option, you can work through a list of accounts rather than entering each one separately. This section provides information about using the Renew/Delete Account option both to renew and delete computer accounts.

Renewing computer accounts

If the non-TIer will continue to provide services for TI, you can use the XID Request Service to renew the account.

  1. On the XID Request Service website, click on the Renew/Delete Account button.

A page appears displaying all of the accounts for which you are primary or back-up sponsor.

  2. To renew an account, click on the Renew link for that account.

  3. At the bottom of XID information page, indicate the number of calendar days for which you want to renew the account. The maximum is 180 days (i.e. 6 months). You can shorten this period, but not lengthen it.

  4. Update any other information on the page as necessary. Field definitions are below.

Primary sponsor's user ID The Enterprise user ID of the TIer responsible for the non-TIer/XID. The Enterprise user ID is a followed by the seven-digit employee number, zero-filled if necessary, e.g. a0123456.
Back-up sponsor's user ID The Enterprise user ID of the TIer who acts in the absence of the primary sponsor. The Enterprise user ID is a followed by the seven-digit employee number, zero-filled if necessary, e.g. a0123456.
TI Project Leader's user ID The Enterprise user ID of the the person who is responsible for directing the non-TIer's work assignment. The TI Project Leader can be the sponsor, back-up sponsor or someone else entirely. The Enterprise user ID is a followed by the seven-digit employee number, zero-filled if necessary, e.g. a0123456.
Division The number for the TI division to which the non-TIer belongs.
Cost Center The number for the TI cost center to which the non-TIer belongs.
