Developing a web-based interface - XID Request Service
Like most companies these days, TI has both employees and contractors, and to differentiate them, TI gives them ID numbers that differ in format--employees' IDs start with "a," contractors' IDs start with "x." Additionally, TI uses XIDs to identify dummy computer accounts for testing systems and applications.
For years, the process for requesting and tracking XIDs, was ad hoc, relying on several different online applications that didn't talk to one another. The XID Request System replaced all that with a single web-based system.
My role in this project was to create a user interface for the system using the standard IT look and feel. Because system development was already under way, I worked with source grabs from the application itself along with the IT Systems Web Style Guide and built the HTML and CSS for the front-end, collaborating with the developer as I went.
Since I built the actual code for the pages rather than wireframes and comps, we realized an added bonus--a working demo of the user interface that we used for early user acceptance testing and as part of a worldwide training tour that took place before product release.
Along with viewing screen shots of the application, you can launch and walk through the demo below. The demo contains dummy data and performs no processing. However, the buttons are linked up to walk through the actions as they would normally occur. I also wrote the help files for this system.
