Susan G. Komen for the Cure
While I was not originally hired to write technical documentation for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, when the team needed documentation for its Research Grants system, I was happy to oblige.
Komen is the largest non-governmental source of funding for breast cancer research in the U.S. Credited with bringing a new level of integrity to the grant application and review process, Komen adheres to a peer-review process recognized by the National Cancer Institute.
The web-based Research Grants system allowed grant applicants to submit their applications, potential grant reviewers to apply to be reviewers, and chosen grant reviewers to view and rate grant applications. To support this system, I created a Word-based worksheet that applicants could fill out before applying online to ensure that they had everything they needed when they began the process. Additionally, I wrote user guides for reviewers and for the leaders of the review study sections, groups of reviewers assigned to review specific types of grant applications.
